Who We Are
Dr. Susan McKee, President & CEO
Dr. Susan P. McKee is President and CEO of Pace Learning Systems. Dr. McKee is dedicated
to developing high quality basic skills remediation and employability training materials. She joined Pace
Learning Systems in 1978 because she identified with the company’s purpose of designing instructional
programs that were individualized and tailored to the needs of learning disabled and at-risk students. Her
beliefs that many social problems of students were due to academic failure, convinced her that the "fail-safe"
approach employed by Pace Learning was the solution to many of the difficulties facing educators today.
Dr. McKee began her professional career in 1971 as an instructor for learning disabled students. Over the next seven years, she worked as a psychologist in mental health and with several public school systems to improve conditions for the special learner. Through her varied experiences in education, she became aware of the need for instructional materials designed for students with particular learning needs and problems.
Since joining Pace Learning Systems, Dr. McKee has developed learning systems that individualize basic skill remediation, permitting students to work at their own best rate and learn twice as much as students would in traditional classrooms. Dr. McKee has demonstrated that our youthful students can succeed in academic performance and that their self-esteem can be greatly enhanced by successful experiences.
In her capacity of Assistant Director of the Institute for Social and Education Research, she participated in the development of the Dropout Assessment and Prevention System (DAPS) and implemented this system in sites in Georgia and Alabama. She has conducted workshops on the DAPS in numerous states and participated in the collection and analysis of research data on the dropout instrument.
Dr. McKee holds a doctoral degree from the University of Alabama in Educational Psychology. Her earlier degrees include an M.A. in Counseling and Guidance and an M.A. in Child Clinical Psychology.
